City to resurface Main Rd, Fish Hoek

The City of Cape Town will soon commence with the resurfacing of Main Road in Fish Hoek, one of the busier transport routes in the Far South. Residents and businesses are kindly requested to note that the work will have an impact on traffic flow and commuting times for about six weeks.
The maintenance work on Main Road will commence on 7 March 2022 and will continue until 19 April 2022, pending any delays and inclement weather.
The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate will undertake the work between 09:00 and 15:30 on weekdays to minimise the impact on commuters during the peak hour periods.
‘Our local roads depot conducted an inspection of Main Road and although the road surface itself is in a poor condition with dips and cracks, the overall integrity of the road infrastructure is still good. We will use a milling machine to get rid of the aged top asphalt layer, then the road will be resurfaced and we will apply fresh road markings. The end result will be a smooth road surface, free of any bumps and cracks, which will improve the overall safety of the road and driving experience.
‘We will do the same with the parking bays on both sides of Main Road, as well as with the traffic circle at the top where the road forks to Simon’s Town and Kommetjie. All-in-all this section of Main Road covers a distance of about 1,3km. The work is long overdue and we are excited to get going. Overall, it will also prolong the longevity of Main Road,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The work will take place as follows:
Along Main Road from Clovelly Road to the Fish Hoek traffic circle, every weekday from 09:00 until 15:30
The project will kick off on Monday, 7 March 2022, at the Fish Hoek traffic circle at the top of Main Road (M4) where it joins the M65 towards Kommetjie
One lane will be open to traffic travelling in a westerly direction, meaning from Clovelly Road towards the Fish Hoek traffic circle
Traffic travelling in an easterly direction towards Clovelly Road will be diverted along the roads on the sand dunes’ side (suburban roads)
Parking bays will be available on one side of Main Road for the duration of the works
‘We will do our best to minimise the inconvenience and disruptions. However, local residents, businesses, and commuters travelling along Main Road will be impacted as roadworks always come with some degree of inconvenience. I’m asking all to please support the project, and, if possible, to avoid Main Road during working hours while this project is ongoing. Those who cannot avoid Main Road are advised that travelling times will be longer than usual and I request you to please abide by the signage,’ said Councillor Quintas.
